Lunchtime at sign for Ngapurua shelter
Maybe Colin isnt checking his heartbeat - hes making sure hes got his wallet

This is at Puketotara Hut on the morning ( 8.00 a.m) of the last day
preparatory to the descent to the Whanganui river.

Above duplicated. There was a goat culler (DOC contractor) staying at
the hut overnight who took these pix (just in case you were wondering).

Just below the Hut off the end of the meadow before the descent proper.
You can just see the Whanganui river in the distance above Bryans Pack

About an hour later down on the river getting into the jetboat.
Theres about a 20m strip between the river and where the bush starts.
That slope is pretty typical of most of the descent.

Heading up river to the Mangapurua landing.

DOC sign at the Mangapurua landing.
The Mangapurua Bridge is the 'Bridge to Nowhere"

Start of the walkway to the bridge.
Everone is very happy cos we dont have to take our packs...

One of the old homestead sites and some remnant machinery (horse drawn plough).
The names on the signpost are the various families that owned or
farmed/used the section when the owners (or previous users) walked off.
