Matemateonga Walkway Tramp April 2009 Colins Pictures

Mt Taranaki Sunset ( This was before the walkway)

At the trail head sign on top of Kohi saddle, mid afternoon
From Left to right:
Kathryn, Bryan, Kieran, Hops, Lindsey, Colin, Julie

Bridge across deep creek/gully on way into Omaru hut
Colin is across the other end of the bridge taking the photo.

Second day - morning - lined up and ready to leave Omaru Hut

The central mountains - Ruapehu etc - through the trees from the trail

Looking out from the top of Mt Humphries - half hour climb up
(and we do mean up) from the trail - view is vaguely south

Interior showing sleeping area ("bunks") of Pouri Hut,
Stove and drying area on RHS

Start of third day outside Pouri Hut ready to go (about 8.00 a.m ish).
It was raining (and misty) but we were ready for it...
Except Lindsey forgot his rain trousers so improvised a rather fetching
plastic bag kilt.

Midday day three at sign for Ngapurua shelter just after stopping for
lunch, Things are still a bit damp

Our boots strung up to dry on the main support beam at Puketotara Hut

Happiness is dry feet (Kierans?)

Outside Puketotara Hut start of last day ready for descent
to the Wanganui river.

View from the trail along a narrow descending ridge looking North to
the upstream of the Wanganui river.
The lodge is somewhere down by the poplar trees

Down on the Wanganui river (On the jetboat heading upstream)
Could be mistaken for a pond.

Upstream above the Mangapurua landing on the start of the walking trail to
the "Bridge to Nowhere".
(The sign sez 40 minutes to the bridge, 30 to toilets)

An arty shot of the Bridge to Nowhere, through the bridge railings to
the Mangapurua river (side tributary of the Wanganui) below.
Its impressively high off the river

Looking back along the bridge to the trail we came up

Back on the Wanganui river heading back downstream

Stop for afternoon tea on the roadside on the way back to Wanganui.
Wanganui river in the background.
The serious looking snowy haired gent in the middle is my Uncle Don
- transportation and sustenance provider....
